NO GI DIVISIONS: Use standard NAGA Rules
GI DIVISIONS: Use standard BJJ Rules
The NAGC is the biggest, baddest mixed grappling tournament on the planet. Seven years ago, the NAGA pioneered the idea of having mixed grappling styles compete in a tournament forum in both Gi & No-Gi competition. Our goal was to not limit the strengths of any one style. The popularity of this idea has grown exponentially, from 55 members back in 1995, to over 6,500 in 2002. We have separated all of the ADULT Gi & No-Gi competition (No-Gi on Saturday/ Gi on Sunday) and added over 22 divisions from last year's event, including Kids, Masters, and Women divisions by Beginner & Advanced. This is so the first-time individuals in these new categories can compete with other Beginners and the Advanced can battle for championship belts! The NAGA is continuously refining the components of its tournaments including the division assignments, and in this evolution, the NAGC continues to be the biggest and best around!
127 GRAPPLING DIVISIONS
The NAGC has 127 separate grappling divisions! This is more than any other grappling tournament, ever! The NAGA has eliminated the possibility of mismatches and has provided you with the fairest and most comprehensive tournament structuring in the country. This event nearly doubles in size every year. Why? Because the NAGC is the grand finale event of the year for the fastest growing grappling organization in the world.
56 CHAMPIONSHIP BELTS
The NAGA has commissioned a company to create HUGE Custom Championship Belts for this event! Our investment of over $14,000 was worth every penny! They are awesome: real leather with a diamond cut, chrome finish that is going to blow you away! Tournament Gi & No-Gi Champions in all Kids (Under 14 Years old), Teens (15 to 17 years), Women, Men, Masters & Executive (Advanced Divisions) winners will take home a beautiful Championship Belt for their victory.
(See Registration form for specific Championship Belt Divisions)
Check out the belts at http://www.nagafighter.com/tournaments/2002nagc/belt2.jpg
450 MONSTER TROPHIES
For Novice, Beginner and Intermediate level competitors, we have invested in monster four-foot, three-poster trophies for 1st place finishers in all other divisions. Unlike medals, we are giving awesome trophies to all 1st thru 4th place finishers in all divisions (Belts replace 1st Place Trophy in Advance Divisions)
SANDBAGGING IS CAUGHT
One downside to competition grappling is “sandbagging”, or the practice of fighting down skill levels to ensure one takes home an award. Throughout this year, the NAGA has been working with MMA.TV to track all fighters and rank grappling events to produce true “national standings”. A by-product of these standings is that we know who has competed at what level. At the NAGC, Ring Coordinators will use this data to determine whether or not individuals who have fought in the past belong in a higher skill level. While this may take some extra time, we feel very confident that sandbaggers will be forced to fight in their appropriate divisions.
FREE COMPETITION T-SHIRTS
We have commissioned a professional designer to come up with an awesome tournament T-shirt to give away FREE to all pre-registered competitors.

KIDS DIVISIONS (All being held on Saturday 11/23)
NORTH AMERICAN GRAPPLING CHAMPIONSHIP KID DIVISIONS
Because the Children who compete in our sport are the future of the sport, we have spent a considerable amount of time, effort and thought into their competition at the NAGC. The North American Grappling Championship (NAGC) being held November 23rd & 24th has grown to be such an enormous event that we were forced to break it into two days. Logically, we had all the No-Gi Divisions on Saturday and all Gi Divisions on Sunday, this included the Teen and Kids divisions split among two days.
GI & NO-GI DIVISONS – SAME DAY
Having a 2 year old daughter, I know how much effort is involved in taking a child to an event, especially for more than one day. After some careful thought and several requests from parents, we decided to execute all Kids Divisions (Ages 14 and under) & Teen Divisions (Ages 15, 16 & 17 years old) both Gi and No-Gi onto the same day!
BENEFITS TO YOU:
For those parent who do not compete, this means you will not have to stay overnight or travel to the venue two days in a row. For those parents who DO compete, we have rented a huge blow up castle that your kids can play in while you compete. We have also have hired some adults to keep an eye on them while they play.
KIDS WIN HUGE CHAMPIONSHIP BELTS
All Advance Children and Teen competitors that take 1st place in both GI & No-Gi competition will take home the following HUGE Belt for their victory!
ALL KIDS ARE NOT EQUAL
Many kids like adults are new to grappling. Since there are obviously different levels of Children Grapplers, we thought it would be great to have experience levels for the No-Gi children competitors.
We have separated the No-Gi Children into two groups, Beginner (Under 1 year experience) and Advanced (Over 1 Year experience).
Also, children will not be allowed to compete in both Begionner & Advanced. The idea is to have new kids go against others with the same level of experience just like the Adults!
HUGE TROPHIES FOR BEGINNER KIDS
The Kids that fight in the Beginner Divisions and take 1st place will take home a HUGE 4 foot, three column trophy for their effort.
AWARDS FOR 1ST THRU 4TH PLACE
At large events, especially the NAGC, its great to give awards to 1st thru 4th place finishers. At the NAGC like the adults, whether you fight in advanced or beginner divisions, all 2nd, 3rd, & 4th place finishers are taking home beautiful trophies for their victories!
KIDS GET TO FIGHT MORE THAN ONCE
One of the greatest benefits of having your kids fight in the NAGC on Saturday, November 23rd is that they will get to compete at least two times that day. Once in the No-Gi Divisions and once in the Gi Divisions. Even if you child loses his/her 1st match (Which 50% of all competitors do) they will get a second chance to compete later on in the Gi Divisions
COMPETITON IS HUGE
I admire the parents and kids that want to fight multiple times. Often in smaller events, there just aren’t enough children in the competition so you end up spending time and money to have your kids compete against each other.
Last year the NAGC Kids divisions were packed, 8 plus competitors in each weight class.
Teams like Tong Dragon, Kioto, G-4, Sento, & Tiger Schulman etc. will pack the place with talented children fighters.
Lastly, we are awarding 24 Championship Belts and 108 Trophies to the Children and Teen Division Winners this day, hope you can be part of it.

FIRST TIME FIGHTING IN A NAGA EVENT?
If this is your first time competing in a NAGA event you are certain to have questions. Competition is always stressful; we hope that by detailing what will happen during the day, your experience will be enhanced. If you have concerns not addressed below, please contact us at 860-632-2753 or President@NAGAFighter.com.
WHO CAN ENTER? The NAGA does not require you to be on a team in order to compete. In fact, about 25% of our fighters are independent. NAGA events are open to all styles - Wrestling, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Japanese Jujitsu, Sambo, Jeet Kune Do, etc. There are no restrictions on what form you practice. We have divisions for children and adults and masters, men and women, different skill levels, and for Gi and no Gi competitors. WHAT TIME DO I SHOW UP? The doors will open each day at 8:30 AM. It generally takes about 2 hours to register and weigh in all competitors, so the matches do not start until approximately 11 AM. On Sunday, the event will start at 10 AM because the venue closes at 4 PM. WHEN IS MY FIRST MATCH? Kids, Teens, Women and Masters/Executive Divisions are run first. Then follows Novice through Advanced Adults, by increasing skill level. As the exact number of competitors is unknown until event day, it is difficult to precisely predict when your division will run. As a general rule, if you are a beginner, get there early; if you are fighting in the advanced divisions, you will likely compete towards the end of the day. REGISTRATION: PREREG or AT THE DOOR? All competitors must register. This can be done at the door the morning of the event, or you can pre-register by filling out and returning the enclosed form along with the entry fee. All pre-registered competitors get a FREE t-shirt, and the use of a special expedited line at the door. Athletes choosing to register at the door on event day do not get the shirt, and may have a considerable wait, due to the time necessary to process paper work. INDEX CARDS & WEIGH IN: When you register you will get an index card for each division you are competing in that day. If you enter more than one division, you will have a card for each. Once you are registered and inside the venue, go to the weigh-in station to be weighed. If your weight is high, you can enter a heavier division, or you can cut weight and be rechecked. The scales are open all day! If your weight is correct, a staff member write it on your index card. WHERE IS MY DIVISION? The NAGA uses 8 Rings running continuously throughout the day. When you register, you will be given a sheet indicating what ring your division is in, and the order of divisions in each ring. This information is also posted at each ring, and at the weigh-in station. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MY DIVISION IS CALLED? When your division is up, you will bring your index card for that division to the ring and give it to the ring coordinator, who sits ringside. The coordinator will take a card from each competitor in the division, checking that the weight, skill level, etc are correct. The competitors will be separated by size and school. Byes will be given to the best competitors as required to end up with a single winner. When the draw is completed, the first two fighters will be called onto the mat, whereupon they will shake hands and the referee will start the match. At the end of the contest the referee will raise the winner’s hand (decided either by Tap out or Referee’s Decision). When you win, go to the Coordinator, to ensure that your name is properly entered into the draw. The winning competitor will take a seat and wait to be called back to fight again. This process continues until there is a single winner – the Division Champion! As we award 3rd & 4th places, you may be asked to fight again, even if you lost your prior match. IN CLOSING …Every one of the 1,000 + matches that will take place starts and ends with a handshake, because every one who competes commands respect. We hope you have a great time at the event and win every match! However, it is the mathematical nature of competition that half the athletes lose. That is why winning and losing is only a part of the reason people compete. You test yourself, both bringing out your best, and inspiring your training in future. You will see the very best athletes in the sport in action, thus learning more. Grappling is a challenging event; you are admired not just for taking first place, but for having the courage to compete in the first place. We hope to see you there.
RULES are on our website – Flyers are going out in the mail today!
See everyone in November – This event is going to be awesome!!!
