UMA UK Open High Kneeling Judo Ne Waza/Groundfighting Championships
Sunday 19th August 2007
England
Yet again, another great, enjoyable, friendly and successful day, all without incident yet again, and all this with lots of fantastic fights, the turn out for the Championships was a little under 70 competitors, with August being the main holiday month, it was still an excellent turnout and the standard of the Players and fights were yet again excellent to say the least, hence there were a lot of excellent fights yet again, it was obvious that the standard of the Players old and new to our Championships so far this year and the fights etc, at our Championships, is getting better, so well done to everyone of the Players.

It was only a matter of time.
Mark Bocek will be making his UFC debut tonight at UFC 73 – “Stacked” taking place in Sacramento, California where he will be going up against Frank Edgar (6-0-0).
Bocek, who teaches at the “Kombat Arts Training Academy” in Mississauga Ontario, is one of Canada’s first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belts. A highly respected and feared fighter who has achieved numerous (amateur) international wins before he decided to go Pro MMA.
Bocek who has fought in events such as King of the Cage and TKO, has earned himself a 4-0-0 Pro MMA record defeating Garett Davis, John Mahlow, Kevin Manderson, and Mark Colangelo. None of his fights have gone past the first round.
Although Bocek is well known in Canada, not too many people have heard of him as far as the United States goes. After tonight, that will all change.

Liz Posener, a Pankration and Muay Thai fighter from Vancouver B.C., has been busy turning some heads in the past few months.
The 31 year old wife and mother of two began training in Pankration and Muay Thai in 1998 - two years after her first pregnancy with her baby daughter. Initially, she viewed the sport as “fun” and a great way to get back into shape. At the time, little did she know, that she was entering the world of MMA.
Liz had participated in an MMA “Team Quest” mini camp. After three days of training with Randy Couture, Matt Lindland, Nate Quarry, and Robert Follis, she stated “I learned enough in the first 15 minutes to get my moneys worth.” Two months after the camp, she was fighting in her first MMA match.
Training under her husband Simon, she has achieved an MMA record of 4-2-1, and has fought in previous events such as Elite Fighting Championships, Real Cage Fighting Championships, and Unified Cage Fights.
She’s already obtained a handful of supporting sponsors including SubmitGear.com, Nogi.com, and Bushido.ca and is currently featured on the cover of 2 MMA magazine’s; “NW FightScene” and “FightZone”. Full Contact Magazine has also written a 2-page article on her and her accomplishments.

Van Damme says that he watches MMA, but he heard about Mirko from his father, who watched one of Pride shows, and before Mirko's fight there was a short movie about Mirko. After watching it, Van Damme's father told him: "there is one great fighter who wears checkered shorts and as a teenager had your poster in his room". Van Damme says that he felt satisfaction in fact that one Pride champion found inspiration in his movies for all that Spartan work. So he decided to call Mirko.
Van Damme says that he wants to make a movie about mixed martial arts, and that Crocop would have a role in this movie. Besides Crocop, Van Damme wants Jerome Le Banner, Fedor Emelianenko and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in that movie. Van Damme says that this movie would be for mixed martial arts what "Raging Bull" (with Robert De Niro) was for boxing.
In rest of the interview, Van Damme says that he trains more now, cause he doesn't want to embarass himself in front of Crocop. He is also joking that he plans to stay for 7 days at Crocop's home, but there is possibility that it will last shorter, if he doesn't meet Crocop's expectations
They ask him about Sylvester Stallone, and he compares their relationship to Crocop and Fedor. He says they are rivals, so they can't be friends. But he also says that he hopes Crocop and Fedor will become friends, if they agree to shoot a movie together

Submit Gear would like to congratulate sponsored Canadian fighter Mark Bocek for his recent win at the “King of the Cage – Freedom Fight” in Gatineau Quebec. Mark dominated the fight forcing King of the Cage veteran John Mahlow to submit to an armbar in the first round.
Mark (also known as “Big Red”) began his martial arts training at the age of 8. After receiving his black belt in Kempo Karate, he started training BJJ under Rickson and Renzo Gracie. He then later moved on to Nova Uniao where he received his black belt through Joao Roque, making him the first Canadian-born BJJ black belt.
Now teaching BJJ out of the Kombat Arts Training Academy in Mississauga Ontario, Mark is ready to dominate the MMA world. With a well-established list of local and international championships (including the 2006 ADCC North American Trials for Submission Grappling) and with his current undefeated 3-0-0 record, Mark has his eyes set on the UFC.
